PJESME / POEMS

ANNE THROPE 1964 USA Nelson
Mentor: Anđela Turukalo
Zarobljeno srce

Ako slika dovoljno govori,
ako lice lansira hiljadu brodova,
možeš li uopšte zamisliti moj dodir?
Nježna, svilena glatkoća;
privlačnost i opijenost?
Pristup je suptilan, proračunat,
a takođe i koketan i neodoljivo spokojan..
Dvoje stranaca u gustoj gomili,
oboje se brzo kreću u suprotnim
pravcima, sa ciljem; namjerno.
Mekoća moje kože dok prstima
pratim cijelu dužinu tvoje ruke,
u suptilnom prolazu, nasuprot
Tada smo oboje brzo smeteni
usred beskrajne rijeke čovječanstva.
A udarac nadahnuća koji sam dala,
čiste senzacionalne radosti, kako se zadržava…
Ali do tada? Prekasno je, tvoj gubitak!
I zarobiću tvoje srce.
Odložena reakcija, pogled iza sebe.
Budući da sam tako umanjena, topim se.
Kao da nestajem u vazduhu pod velom,
grli me prepuni životni prostor.
Ali, moj nesvjesni, naivni, fantomski ljubavniče;
ugrabila, i pametno sam ti ušuškala srce,
pomilovati ga i šapnuti slatko ništa,
kao da posjedujem vudu lutku.
U tim trenucima, pamti moje riječi …
doživjećeš emotivni slajd
u ekstatičnu, euforičnu, blaženu želju
neviđenog intenziteta, u ushićenje!
I nikada nećeš tačno znati zašto …
na mom kraju, slatka ljubavi? Kikoćem se.
——————————————————
“The Captivated Heart”

If a picture can speak volumes,
a face launch a thousand ships,
can you even imagine my touch?
The delicate silken smoothness,
the allure, and the intoxication?
The approach is subtle, calculated
and also flirtatious, yet so serene.
Two strangers are in a thick crowd,
both swiftly moving in the opposing
direction, with intention; deliberate.
The softness of my skin as my fingers
trace the entire length of your arm,
in sweet subtle passing, juxtaposed
with my sharp fingernails, traipsing,
scraping, all to garner your attention.
And I clasp your hand so very briefly
with my most gentle tactile embrace.
Then we are both quickly swept away
amid the river of unending humanity.
However, the jolt of inspiration I gave,
of pure sensational Joy, how it lingers.
But by then? It is too late, your loss!
And I will have captivated your heart.
Delayed reaction, you glance behind.
But being so diminutive, I melt away.
I am as if I disappeared into veiled air,
the crowded space of life envelops me.
But, my clueless, naive phantom lover,
when our paths crossed, I did stealthily
snatch, and I cleverly tucked your heart
securely into my top left breast pocket.
Oh, trust you will still live and breathe,
but your life will be inextricably altered.
I will tend to your heart well, protect it,
deposit it into a keepsake box, locked.
Key, on a chain wrapped ’round my neck.
(Would it be too transparent of the poet
to say, “choker,” rather than “chain?”)
On occasion, I will retrieve your heart,
stroke it, and whisper sweet nothings,
as if I am in possession of a Voodoo Doll.
During those moments, mark my words…
you will experience an emotional slide
into an ecstatic, euphoric, blissful desire
of unprecedented intensity, a Rapture!
And you will never know exactly why…
on my end, sweet love? I’ll be giggling.
Ljubav, vrijeme i smrt

i prelaza u gornju ravan.
Iskoristite vrijeme sasvim u svoju korist
i u korist drugih.

Smrt je samo karta za duhovnu ravan.
Mi smo stvoreni od duše
a tijelo naseljavamo na određeno vrijeme.
Ovo vrijeme može biti duže ili kraće,
prema ličnim postupcima i osjećanjima.
Volite više, uživajte u svom vremenu,
dođite do kraja
i znajte da je bilo nevjerovatno iskustvo
doći na ovaj svijet.

——————————————————-

Amor, tempo e morte

Utroba unutra stvara
djecu izrazitih osjećanja,
što žive u zametku poništenog srca.
Okruženi karminskom rijekom,
ujedinjuju se poput naroda:
rasturaju maslačak,
bore se sa robovskom tišinom,
ostavljajući me grozničavom od osjećanja.
To je vrtoglavica, osjećaj odvratnosti.
Osjećam toliko kontrakcija…
Rijeke znoja teku kao munje:
gase svjetla i izblijede,
sipajući smijeh i radost.
Iz dugog porođaja rađa se poezija.
——————————————
Nasce la poesia

Ventre genera dentro di me
figli di sentimenti distinti
vivono nell'embrione di un cuore disfatto
contornati da un fiume carminio
si uniscono come il popolo
spargono denti di leone
lottano con il silenzio di uno schiavo
lasciandomi febbricitante dall'emozione
É una vertigine, sensazione di disgusto
tante contrazioni sento
fiumi di sudore corrono come lampi
spengono luci e sbiadito
spruzzano risa e allegria
dal parto prolungato nasce la Poesia
Burrnesha (ili Posljednja zakleta djevica)*

Jedan pokret i suknja pada na zemlju:
zadnji trag tvoje ženstvenosti.
Prkosna pletenica pada pod noge
sa ponosnim, bakarnim odsjajem.
Dojka ti je nezrela.
Dodiruješ kožu od nara, pa vežeš.
Dva surova zavoja ograničavaju dah.
Mladenački veo tvoje majke je nasložen (san
jabuke i cimeta koje čuva kamfor).
Drhtavo lice odraženo na fragmentu stakla.
Na krevetu:
poderane pantalone čekaju
tvoju mliječnu kožu.
U daljini: refren glasova i jadikovki.
Tvoj otac
odmara u najvećoj sobi.
Amarantski šal
jedva krije cvijet krvi,
uspomenu na divlji lov.
Sama ćeš čuvati čast kuće,
porodice i sreza.
Sjutra,
suočena sa starijim očima od leda,
negiraćeš da si žena.
To je borba, trgovina za tvoju slobodu.
Zadimljeni podrumi rakije i znoja
čekaju na tebe.
Utroba ti je neplodna zauvijek.
Zakon planina i dolina;
naglih, brzih rijeka;
napisan krvlju, iz dalekih vremena:
sama, Djevica vrijedi samo šest volova.
Sjutra ćeš biti čovjek.
Za šaku ljubavi,
tvoji uzdasi i tuga

—————————————————
Burrnesha (ovvero l’ultima vergine giurata)

calzoni consunti in attesa
di pelle di latte. Lontano un coro
di voci e lamenti. Tuo padre
è composto nella stanza più grande.
A stento una sciarpa amaranto
nasconde quel fiore di grumi di sangue
memento di caccia selvaggia.
Sei sola a serbare l’onore di casa,
famiglia e contado. Domani
di fronte agli anziani
con occhi di ghiaccio
negherai d’esser donna.
Domani sei uomo. Per l’amore una mano
sospiri e tormenti nel letto
da sola.
————————————————
Burrnesha (or the last Sworn Virgin)

One gesture and on the ground falls the skirt
final vestige of your womanhood.
A defiant braid surrenders at your feet
with proud copper reflections.
Your breast is unripe. You touch
the pomegranate skin and
you bind it up. Two cruel bandages
constraining the breath. Folded is the bridal veil
that once was your mother’s (a dream
of apple and cinnamon guarded by camphor).
A fragment of glass reflects
your trembling face. On the bed
ragged pants are waiting
for your milky skin. Far away a chorus
of voices and laments. Your father
is resting in the largest room.
Barely an amaranth scarf
hides the blossom of blood
memento of wild hunting.
You’re alone to keep the honor of home,
family and county. Tomorrow
facing the elderly
with eyes of ice
you’ll deny being a woman.
It’s a fight, a trade for your freedom.
Smoky cellars of raki and sweat
are waiting for you. Your belly is barren forever.
The law of mountains and valleys, of impetuous hastening rivers
is written in blood since remote times
– Alone, a Virgin, is worth only six oxen –
Tomorrow, you’ll be a man. For the love one hand
your sighs and your sorrow
when Moon is not looking.

(In rural Albania, since the Middle Age, single women had no honor, their possessions were disposed of and they were not protected against violence. Only one solution remained for them: to swear to remain virgins forever. The “sworn virgins” became the Patriarchs of their families, with all the burdens and honors of male authority. Today there are about 40 sworn virgins in Albania.)
In my works I long for a synthesis of the different artistic languages, for instance my poems have some filmic/theatrical elements as well as a touch of sensorial, pictorial quality.
Your opinion about our contest – Mili Dueli?
I am enjoying the process very much. It takes courage to undergo such a huge competition with poets from all over the world. It is a humbling experience as well, we learn a lot, we confront, we are exposed directly to the public judgment (for me it was the scariest part) – Thank you for this!
The Arctic,
The Antarctic,
because thousands of specimens,
hundreds of species of flora and fauna,
tens of environmentalists
have paid for their protection of nature.

After all, what we will expect
when cannibalism is going to be usual
for meat-lovers, vegetarians, vegans, and all alike them,
and under feet of our dehydrated and hungry bodies
will melt a rock-hard ice
while we will be tortured by carbon from trunks of trees?

Unfortunately, so long as our infant steps

21 y.o., I was born in Ternopil’, Ukraine, and I live here as well.

I’m studying software engineering at Ternopil’ National Technical University, almost finishing my master’s degree.

When I have free time to spend, I prefer to play football, sing, listen to music, or capture photos; sometimes I translate from Ukrainian to English to strengthen my knowledge and soft skills in English (thus all English translations of poems I sent earlier in that competition were mine). And of course, I write poems when I have a chance and feeling to do it.

I participated as an author and performer at BookForum in L’viv, Ukraine (2018, 2019) and Creative Youth Seminar in Irpin’, Kyiv region (2019, 2020 (online)). I was also chosen as the participant of the art festival “Ї” in my hometown of Ternopil’ in 2020 but it was postponed up until May 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What makes me different from the others? Perhaps, the fact that I mostly perceive poetry as an environment for experiments – thus I don’t fear to try something new while I’m writing or typing. In my opinion, it’s not very good if you’re framed and can’t make poems that have different themes, rhythms, and forms – especially the latter.
The competition certainly inspires and provides new opportunities for poets. For me, personally, this is an experience and a new level. I am infinitely grateful to the organizers. Poetry is God’s blessing, it is an invisible bridge called to unite people! This is a unique verbal expression of emotions, thoughts, views and whole worlds! It is a step towards high, inner enrichment and spiritual growth! Poetry is a love for the word and the path that leads … If poetry is a gift, it helps to carry light into this world and “shine with the word”.
You look at deep skies, wishing to fly away
but you are grounded, with no roots, and no wings belong to your flesh.
Your eyes burn silent fire, sparks before ignition, dark clouds dimming soft light.
You curled your soul – bird over a silent nest.
But for those, who need you – shelter and salvation with you lay rest.
Your strength and weakness both equal true Love, belonging to no one, no exclusivity.
You believe in humaneness , even though the world is its refutation.
You have so much more to speak of, I can hear it with my heart.
But nonetheless you choose to leave without uttering a sound.
In eternal melodies
awaken from visions
of ancient castles,
that reign legendary
in mystic colors
in fluid tones,
in the white alley
where we stretches our arms …

Widespread aromas of musk
and migratory birds fleeing
that fly away …
and they fall
suddenly,
like a silk veil
in a breath of wind,
which opens the door to heaven,
to the refracted prism of the soul …

Cleopatra is wandering through the rooms …
On a pale autumn day
where time breaks down hieroglyphs and codes
reflected in wet walls,
with her image …

Trampling of distant steps
awake sighs
in silent woods,
bare from sins ..
The invisible wanders
in sad drifts
of an incomprehensible world
where the illusion is lost
in the silent space ..
and stops at the threshold of limbo
of a silver mist …
envelops the evening air,
then it climbs up
on the Andromedea armchair
in rooms darkened by night …l
and it turn itself off
in his light…
Your biography
Juljana Mehmeti ( Albania- Italy)

Juljana Mehmeti was born in the city of Durres, in Albania.
Since she was a child she became fond about literature and writing, especially poetry, a genre that in the following years will turn into a real life motive, a way to better express her ideas, her thoughts, her visions and metaphysics , her point of view according to her consciousness but also improving the awareness of the same suggestion that surrounds the human world. The first book “Soft – Poems” published in Italian language attracted the attention of publishers and Italian literary criticism, not only for its particular style, but also for new words, the language used, the philosophical message and the currents present in her poems that go from Hermetism to Surrealism. The second book comes from the field of translation entitled “Vramendje” – (Rimugino “) of the Italian author Alessandro Ferrucci Marcucci Pinoli, which will constitute the first experience in this field, but will also strengthen his long-standing conviction, to know and translate in his language, many popular Italian authors.. The collection of poems “Oltrepassare” is her new book, which presents itself with the new tendencies of Albanian literature, postmodernism and universal consciousness, from experimental currents to absurdity. She published in English language “In his light” (Demer Press, 2019 and in Italian language “Namasté” (Libri di – Versi in Diversi Libri- 2020). She currently lives and works in Ancona, Italy.
Noćna melodija

Noć i njeni tamni zraci prekrili su grad.
Šetam gradom sam
sa mojom sjenkom.
Sa lakoćom udišem hladnoću u pluća. Noge me nose kroz ulice, krivudave staze, metroe, sokake.
Okolne kuće lijepo blistaju. Ljudi tamo zvuče lijepo, a nedaleko odatle gradska buka i dalje odjekuje.
Koče vozovi, bruje automobili, duva vjetar.
Kroz tiši noćni grad prolaze tiši zvuci.
Život noću je drugačiji.
Tajanstven, kao neotkrivena tajna.
Kao neriješena slagalica.
Priča nikad ispričana.
Hodam pod noćnim nebom.
Glatko hodam u noćni svijet.
Upravo tako.
Kuće, uglovi ulica i noćna svjetla. Kutci, kuće,
otrcane ograde, a opet lijepe.
—————————————————–
Melódia noci

Noc a jej temné paprsky prikryli mesto.
Kráčam mestom sám so svojim tieňom.
Chladný vzducch s ľahkosťou vdychujem do pľúc.
Moje nohy nesú ma ulicami, krivými chodníkmi, podchodmi, uličkami.
V okolitých domoch pekne svieti sa.
Tam ľudia pekne znejú a opodiaľ zasa zvuky mesta stále čuť.
Vlaky brzdiace, auta hučiace, vetrík fučiaci.
Tichšie nočným mestom, tichšie zvuky nesú sa.
Život v noci iný je.
Tajomný ako neodkryté tajomstvo tajné.
Ako nevyriešená hádanka.
Príbeh nevypovedaný.
Pod nočnou oblohou kráčam.
Nočným svetom si to šibem.
Len tak popri, domy, rohy ulíc a nočných svetiel.
Zákutia, domy, ploty ošumelé a pritom krásne.
——————————————————————-

Night Melody

Night and its dark rays covered the city.
I walk around the city alone with my shadow.
I breathe cold air into my lungs with ease.
My feet carry me through the streets, crooked walkways, subways, alleyways.
The surrounding houses shine nicely.
People there sound nice, and from not so far away, the sounds of the city still echo.
Braking trains, humming cars, wind blowing.
Through quieter night city, quieter sounds flow.
Life at night is different.
Mysterious as an uncovered secret.
Like an unsolved puzzle.
Story never told.
I walk under the night sky.
Smoothly walking in the night world.
Just like that.
Houses, street corners and night lights.
Nooks, houses, shabby fences and yet beautiful.
Everything nicely under the night blanket draped.
Night is different than day.
Night can be pretty lively.
But I love the calm one when you feel that the only thing that warms you is only her.
The moment when everything slows down and only the memory of the day comes.
When we regain strength and move on to other targets around the corner of the waiting day.
She is so beautiful when she puts on her star cloak and reminds us that
there is infinity above us, and we are in it, and there is our future, and there are our dreams that we sometimes
whisper to the stars.
We will relax with you, dear night.
With you we always remember how we love peace, harmony and a pleasant melody.
Night melody.
When I write, I perceive some responsibility to the reader, to his feelings.
I want him to feel better after reading my poems.
they mate differently
they pass through that door unexpectedly
towards a strange era.

so one easily worships
she’ll learn to smile again
she’ll learn the ABCs
give her another chance
or else she hangs around as a ghost
she fills within you, frightens.

Put her between the sayable and unsayable
so she keeps you alive.
Your biography
Elif Sezen is a multidisciplinary artist, bilingual poet/writer, researcher and translator who was born in Melbourne/Australia in 1981 of Turkish parents. She lived both in Izmir (Western Turkey) and Australia since her childhood, settled in Melbourne/Australia 2007. She obtained her PhD in Fine Art from Monash University (2014): In her doctorate she researched how memory can be reconceptualised through symbolic and metaphorical transformations between visual arts and poetry. In her work she speculates upon reconceptualizing memory traces emerging from trauma and loss. This explorative process leads her to a restorative notion of self-construction, desire, love, longing and a sense of homecoming. Her most recent collection of poems ‘A Little Book of Unspoken History’ was published by Puncher & Wattmann (2018). Her previous book ‘Universal Mother’ was published by Gloria SMH Press (2016). She also published a chapbook ‘The Dervish with Wings’ in 2017. Her Turkish translation of Ilya Kaminsky’s acclaimed book ‘Dancing in Odessa’ was published by Artshop Press (2014), and her first collection of experimental mix of short stories and poems ‘Gece Düşüşü’ was published in Turkish by Hayal Press. She was shortlisted for the Avni Olez Poetry Prize 2010 and received Honorable mention award in Yunus Emre Awards Australia 2018 in Literature. Your opinion about our contest – Mili Dueli?
I found Mili Dueli to be an important contest because it creates a meeting platform for many poets from various cultural backgrounds, so that they can read each others’ poetry and expand their awareness of different poetic approaches. I believe this alone is a valuable experience.

Poslednja si rana od metka na koži, draga moja;
Then you stretch those pieces
On the vast stage of space
And lay a carpet for life
To amble on, slowly slowly

Even I Cherish you more
when you drag your pieces
Beneath the feet of life
After a gentle but glint touch
You never allow life
To kiss your one piece twice
Yet life appreciates you
For your tiny accolade
