Mili Dueli 2023 – Second Round

SECOND ROUND
(March 13 – June 20, 2023)

 

Mili Dueli 2023 – an international online poetry contest, this season gathered 711 authors from 104 countries  The poetry contest presents applied poetry to its readers around the world and thus spreads the popularity of poetry as the most massive poetry competition in this part of the world, as well as in the world. In the ten-year tradition, a total of 8 seasons were held, and this is the ninth. The contest traditionally consists of 5 elimination rounds.

SCHEDULE

First round (from February 13, 2023 to March 13, 2023): Contest organizer, poet Nermin Delić, reviewed the submitted poems of all 711 authors. After the review, he selected them and sent 447 authors to the Second Round. The only rule during the selection that he had, is that each of the 104 registered countries must have at least one representative in the Second Round. You can see more about the First Round here.

Second Round (from March 13 to May 13, 2023): In the Second Round, selected authors will be presented with one poem out of a possible two that they submitted to the contest. You can see the list of participants of the Second Round below. Poems will be evaluated by Members of the international jury, and our Readers giving points according to the rules of the Second Round. You can see the rules of the Second Round below. What is certain is that all the presented poems will receive literary criticism from the Members of the jury.

Third Round (Semi-Finals): It is expected to send a new poem and prepare (get one of our mentors and work with them) on the creation of an audiovisual poetry performance that will determine the position of the finalists according to the presented work.

Fourth round (Finals): Review and monitoring, and evaluation of poetic audiovisual performances and selections for the Grand Final in several geographical areas.

Fifth round: Selection of winners through a spectacular online poetry evening.

 

SECOND ROUND

In order to be able to follow the competition and fully understand everything that will happen in the next 60 days, it is necessary to read the text below.

 

1. General notes
447 authors from 104 countries will be presented in the Second Round. The preliminary selection of 711 authors was made by the Organizer in the First Round. In the previous month, the Organizer read over 1,000 submitted poems and selected the best ones for presentation to the jury and readers.
The Second Round refers to the national selection of authors and is an important step towards the selection of the final winner for each participating country.

 

2. List of participants

In the following table you can see the number of selected participants from each of the 104 participating countries. 52 countries have one applied participant each, and that participant is declared the national winner of that country. For the other 52 countries, the selection of authors continues.

 

3. Rules and Organization

The Second Round is made up of 104 duels. We are talking about national duels, with the aim of electing the representatives of each country individually. All authors will be presented with one poem each on the Facebook social network, on the Organizer’s profile. In addition to the original version of the poem they submitted, foreign authors will also be presented with a translation into one of the languages of the people of the former Yugoslavia, so that the international members of the jury can understand and evaluate the poems properly. The translations of the poems are signed by the poets Nermin Delich and Angela Turukalo. At the end of the season, a collection of translations will be published, which authors will be able to purchase.

 

  • Countries with one representative:

In 52 participating countries, we had one application each and the selection of representatives of that country was thus completed. The mentioned authors below are at the same time the official representatives of their countries in Mili Dueli:

Their participation in the Second Round is a showcase thing, therefore, they are automatically placed in the Third Round of the contest. However, in the Second Round, literary criticism from the Jury Members awaits them. Also, their poems were not spared a point evaluation.
Although each of the authors is the only one in its duel, the Members of the International Jury will give them some of the Eurovision points. So, in the option they have a scoring scale: 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,10 and 12 points. All poems will be awarded with 12 points by Readers since it’s the only poems that can be read from those countries.

At the end of the contest, these authors were guaranteed a plaque for the best placement of the country they represent, since other poets from their countries could have applied for the contest, but they did not.

 

  • Countries with two or more representatives:

The following 52 participating countries have 2 or more representatives. Authors selection will continue. Members of the international jury and Readers will have the opportunity to vote for their poems.

Readers’ vote: Readers vote on the social network Facebook, on a post that will be presented on the Organizer’s profile. Each author will receive a link/tag on the post where their poem is featured. Authors will be able to invite their friends to vote for their poems and thus ensure a better ranking. Vote by placing a 👍 or ❤️ on the poem post. The condition for the vote to be valid is to follow the Organizer’s profile!
Readers assign the following points to the most successful poems: 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. If the number of participants in the duel is greater than 10, the other participants will receive zero (0) points. If the number of participants is less than 10, the scale of points decreases from the smallest to the largest number. So, for example, if you have 2 authors in a duel, one will get 12 and the other 10 points.

Voting of the Members of the international jury: The members of the international jury (who will be presented in the following days) will vote using the Eurovision scoring system of the following scale: 12, 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Each duel will have 4 Members of the international jury. In each duel, one of the four members of the jury will be the Organizer. In the duels of foreign authors (non-Balkan countries), the other member of the jury is the poet Anđela Turukalo, who participated in the translation of the poems into a language understandable by the other members of the jury (Montenegrin language).

 

In the end, the jury’s points are added up to the readers’ points and the authors are ranked. The decision on how many authors from each duel goes on to the Third Round is made by the Organizer. The basic starting point is that at least 10% of the authors from the duel leave the competition. Thus, from Serbia, which has the most participants (64), at least 6 authors leave the competition, from Bosnia and Herzegovina (49), 4 authors leave, etc.

 

The list of jury members for each duel will be published later, after this announcement. Also, the schedule of the duels will be published later.

Mili Dueli Junior Poetry Contest: All authors under the age of 18 will participate in the contest, which will be held after the end of this one. The holder of the project for work with young authors will be the German poet Lela Zjajo.
