Title: Heritage
I am from dignified warriors I Belong to a lineage of warriors who fought on front lines conquers territories and unite people like my Grand father Mansa Sangura I learn bravery from my fore father Kunta Kante who was tortured in the heat of slavery who skin was charge and scorn by a burning sun that has no option but to rise that day see his soul yearn for something greater than a mere freedom he was a slave subservient to his root and identity of being a Mandinka I come from royalty I come from explorers, like the waves crashing front he shove my forefather Abubakar the second along with 200,000 men packed the luggage of hopes, dreams and aspiration, they left their comfort zones to a new time zone. They journey to a land man knew nothing about and set sight on the world know call America even before the arrival of Christopher Columbus. I come from nobility, one who history traced to the capital of Niani criss-cross Kangaba back to Kiroukourouni my people prosper. Prosper in the hands of a great king who believed in the freedom and liberation of his people. I speak of a man born with fetish conditions Fern-footed in his ill condition until he transform from his former-former to being in a good condition come the rise of my people Surprisingly, the cry of Sumuguru never sounded in our ear again but a word from Mansa Musa saying (May God prevent us from not knowing our history ) Multitude dance, sing and will their worries Into cry as Askia Muhammed brought up a band to sing a soundful melody of a people on a rise with a song ( Come out Mande Women Come out, The Great King is back on his feet) On that day of freedom, fabric of men and women interwoven to formed a loop of United people submerge as Mande I come from a people whose identity are beauty, who are brave and loyal to everyday duty, who are faultless in plenty, who are flawless but never guilty. I speak of a people whose tribe echoes through the minds and hearts of everyone that hears it. I speak of the Mandingo, the Mandinka, Bambara, Jula and all of the I speak of all of you |
